I hate the darkness in my eyes
That reflects all too well the pitch black of this moonless evening upon us
I consider asking you for a match
But youve used your last one to light, what is that, your seventh smoke?
The sky is dark
You could say it is as cold and dreary as the face staring back at me from my mirror
You could say that, if you wanted to.
My tears reflect the rain pouring down on my face and hands and body
When was it last that I was this alone?
Ive got nothing left to lose tonight
Nothing to lose and less to gain
But Ill lay out my cards anyway
Ill finally lay them all out, for you to see
Im betting high
And if I win
Maybe youll come out of the corner, cigarette smoke streaming out your mouth,
Creating a sick sort of halo around your head,
You could tell me when the last time was you washed your hair
And Ill tell you when the last time was I got a wink of sleep
If you wont come out of your black corner, if you wont come out of the darkness
Ill join you
Ill walk up and plant a kiss on your cheek
Your skin is rough. I cant remember why.
And Ill take your dirty hand in mine
And watch the ashy residue transfer from your palm and fingertips to mine
And Ill smell the whiskey on your breath
But Ill kiss you just the same,
I will ...
I hate the darkness in your eyes
Because its been transferred into mine.
And I hate the darkness in my eyes.
And I hate you
And I hate the sick sad irony of our love, constantly ripping and shredding me to pieces.
I hate the sick sad irony
I hate the sick sad irony
I hate the sad sick irony of the fact
that I dont hate you half as much as I hate myself.
And I hate tonight
Ill find my own dark corner to hide in, just as you did.
So no one can see what Ive become.
You won't enter my darkness, and defile your fingertips again.
You wont follow me.
You never have.

In the screams of many, not one voice is heard over all the others except silence.
"I hate the sad sick irony of the fact
that I dont hate you half as much as I hate myself."
^that has to be my favorite part, but the whole thing is fantastic!!!

Just go off thinking I said something smart..
This particular poem has this kind of beautifully rough sort of sorrow, and a taste of the real world... which, oddly enough, made me feel this sense of surrealism when I read it.
Have I ever told you that you're one of my favorite poets? You seem more real than any of those famous published poets out there, hiding behind their photographs and books... because you're here, and you reply back when people tell you things. I suppose it sounds naive, but it's true.
... Thank you, I suppose I must say. That's the least that I can say.
Wonderful poetry as usual. *nods* ^_^
Great write.

anyway; but I liked the ending!
I figured that when you mentioned this was one of your favorites, it was gonna be a kick ass piece. I love it. It`s written in a way that people can relate, but you`ve still got random personal touches, like the smoking.
"You won`t follow me.
You never have."
I know how that is, actually, walking home from the bus stop I was trying to get ideas for a poem that sounded something like that. And ..wow,
"I don`t hate you half as much as I hate myself."
